Around the station area there is also a modern cafe called Cafe Hatch which has good ambiance and nice drinks and food to enjoy in Yamashina.
From the station on the way to the share house there is also a small bakery which sells delicious and cheap bread, so you can snack a bit on the way home. Around Yamashina there are enough options to eat at local restaurants which of course serve japanese styled food. From Yamashina its around 10 minutes to Kyoto by train if for if you want to go to the centre city or enjoy some historical sites which attracts people from all over the world.
